ABOUT OUR PATRON, STAN STENNETT

We’re proud to be associated with Stan, who through a career spanning over six decades has given his time freely to charities and good causes. He is the original ‘all-round entertainer’, having been a semi-pro and musician before joining the Army. In the late 40’s his comedy musical trio toured with Max Miller and a young Lionel Blair. As a solo comedian, using his guitar and trumpet, he played all the major theatres, was a regular on BBC radio and topped the bill in summer seasons and pantomimes with  Morecambe & Wise, Ken Dodd, Ronnie Corbett and many more.

In the early 1960’s he joined ‘The Black & White Minstrel Show’ staying as principal comic for seven years, helping to win the ‘Golden Rose of Montreaux’ TV Festival.

His TV career includes seven years as Sid Hooper in Crossroads, and a role in ‘Coronation Street’ as Hilda Ogden’s brother.

Over the last thirty years Stan has concentrated his work in Wales. He holds the record for five consecutive years in Panto at Cardiff’s New Theatre, forming his own company to stage productions in many towns, including Robin Hood and Babes In the Wood with OCT in February 2008. Together with his wife, Elizabeth and sons Roger and Ceri, he has run theatres, cinemas and arts centres in Tewkesbury, Hereford, Caerphilly and Porthcawl.

In 2007 he performed a one-man show at the Savoy Theatre, returning a couple of weeks later to repeat his show after it was cut short by a power cut. At the same time he provided a free afternoon workshop for the Savoy Youth Theatre members.

Stan holds a private pilot’s licence, loves golf, is patron of countless Welsh charities, has been the subject of ‘This is Your Life’ and was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen in 1979 for services to theatre and charity. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Thanks Stan!
