ABOUT US
Meetings and rehearsals take place at the premises of the Monmouth Division of St. John in St. Mary Street, Monmouth. Club nights and events are held at a number of venues.
Off Centre Theatre was born in 1986 with a production of Maria Martin Or The Murder In The Red Barn at the Monmouth Festival and on tour. Prior to OCT, Monmouth was served by the Centre Players. They began life as an evening class in September 1974. Their first production was Strindberg’s Playing With Fire, staged in 1975 at the leisure Centre. Before the Centre Players, the Monmouth Players provided Amateur Theatre in the town. Started in 1953, they produced operetta and plays in the Rolls Hall for four years, and straight plays thereafter.
In the early years Off Centre Theatre’s main productions were staged at Monmouth Leisure Centre, and in local Village Halls and schools.
The annual pantomime was moved to Haberdashers Monmouth School for Girls (HMSG) in January 1994. From the following year HMSG became the venue for all their major productions.
